BH & G 365 Vegetarian Meals and Giveaway

Author

As if summertime wasn’t hard enough with two little ones, I decide to fill up that last empty spot on my plate with more of my crackpot ideas for my family’s future. In between the four-time a week gym routine, the pool for the kids numerous times during the week, freelance writing, blogging, cooking, cleaning, on and on, I still try to plan out the healthiest possible meals. I feel like I have to be careful about sodium, buying organic, the caloric content, fiber content, sugar content, saturated fat, etc. I am sure health-conscious mothers, and non-mothers, can agree that eating healthy is not the easiest route. Today’s packaging and labels are meant to deceive, so in my opinion, the best choice is to eat as many fresh fruits and veggies as possible. Unfortunately, this is a time-consuming and sometimes expensive way of eating.

I have shared some of my favorite “healthier” cookbooks with you (and some of my favorite not-so-healthy ones). And now I have the honor to share another, as well as give one to a reader who wishes to improve their veggie intake by cutting out the meat (whether everyday or on occasion is up to you). Anything to help out another who strives to eat and live healthy!

Better Homes & Gardens has always been a favorite of mine, and 365 doesn’t come as a surprise. The amount of recipes is true to the title and they are easy to follow with the nutritional facts right below. The recipes are divided into breakfast, slow cooker, short & simple, pasta, pizza, sandwiches, salads, grilling, casseroles, beans, rice and grains and soups and stews. There is certainly something for everyone in this book, both meat-eaters and vegetarians alike. The variety of recipes is wonderful and the book seems to cover every protein that a vegetarian may turn to.

The price point is perfect..actually on the low side considering the amount and variety of recipes. There is a section of beautiful photographs in the middle, which is possibly the reason the pricing is so low. (ie. no photos every page = lower price).

The only drawback that I noticed: Some recipes have a caloric value well over 500. Granted, there are other factors that make up for the high calories, but I did pass by about 10 recipes due to the calories. An easy fix for this would be to cut out the cheese (which is favored in many of 365′s recipes) and add a sauce of sorts with less saturated fat.

  1. I’d like to win because my husband and I are trying to lose weight, so having the nutritional content with each recipe is great for us, and it also sounds like there will be plenty of recipes all of our family members will enjoy.
